1000ks in 140 days

  • The HIIT Project Unnamed Road Barwon Heads, VIC, 3227 Australia (map)

Our girl Romy Harwood set out to run 1000km in 140 days to raise awareness, conversation and funds for Headspace Geelong and mental health.

In April, Romy reached out to us pondering the idea. The goal was massive & honestly we thought it would be a stretch.
But it was her determination to bring to light her past, open up with others, and share her honesty about mental health battles over a run which was hooked us in and had us on her side 150%.

We knew that if anyone could do this, she was the girl.
If you are wondering what 1000kms over 140 days looks like, it is 50kms per week.
That’s five 10km runs per week, each week.
To us this sounds fun (we are not psychopaths, we just love a run).
In reality though, it’s blisters, chafing, and painfully-cold-it-burns ears on a mid July 5.30am morning.
It takes a whole lot of strength physically and mentally to commit to this journey for five months, and this is exactly what Romy did.

Romy launched a fundraiser page (here) and set the bar high to raise $5k, having smashed her goal she’s hoping to raise $10,000 for Headspace Geelong at the final shabang ‘Run for Reason’ Fundraiser event in Geelong on the 6th October.

On Saturday 29th September, we wanted to give back.

Romy’s cause deeply resonates with us, we believe all of us in some way have been affected by mental health either personally or to someone close to us.

So we decided to host a workout in Barwon Heads where 100% of the proceeds would go to her campaign.
Overwelmingly so, we had so many people book in for the session we had to relocate to a bigger location to fit the crew. Blown away with the response, the shining (sweaty) faces and the connection of the morning, it was a huge success.

We raised in total $365 thanks to all the participants in the workout plus a few additional donations!! Thank you to all of you who got involved!

See images above for the epic community who came together on Saturday 29th September.

We are so thrilled of Romy’s efforts, her determination and honesty on social media for this cause.

If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t wait for the ‘right moment’ to check in on them. Seek help or be that shoulder to lean on.
